Two NAMA Nominations!
Rushingwind & Mucklow received nominations in two categories of the 2011 Native American Music Awards for their ‘Ancient Elements’ album; Best New Age Recording and Best Producer. We’re deeply honored to have our music recognized by the NAMA members and organization. Thank you!
Silent Voices Review on Minor 7th
“Silent Voices,” Michael Mucklow’s 4th fingerstyle oriented CD, is very much like an audio retreat… a sonic space where serenity, introspection and quietude reign. Each tune rolls like a gentle sea with patterns that flow, evolve and create a familiarity and a sense of wholeness. “Silent Voices” is less a collection of tunes as it is musical vista that creates an ergonomic-ness in the listener. Very reminiscent of Windham Hill releases of the late 70′s, Silent Voices continues the journey of Mucklow’s previous CD’s, but has a crispness and sense of purpose that might surprise. “Reflections” encapsulates the grandeur of these gracious grooves, while the tasteful bass work of Dean Cerny on “Floating in the Cove” ripples like the perfect lazy autumn afternoon.

Award Winning Producer!
I am an award winning music producer. Wow, I can really say that now!
The award that Steve (Rushingwind) and I received from the New Mexico Music Awards was for Best Musical Production. Steve gets the award for the song…and I get the award for producing that song.
Fact is, I am the recording/mix engineer and producer on all the albums I have released under my own name and those by Rushingwind & Mucklow. Another fact is, I have filled these roles with nearly every group I have been part of, and goes back about 25 years.
It’s really cool to be recognized by peers as having the mixing and producing skills at a high enough level to be honored by an award for it. Thank you!
If you’re a musician, like what you hear in my recordings, get in touch. I enjoy working with and helping fellow musicians.
What Is “Christian Music”?
This is a reply I posted on The Prophetic Sound Man blog.
———-
Music in and of itself is neither “Christian” nor “Secular”. It’s not Christian because it doesn’t belong to only the Christians. For the same reason it’s not Secular – it’s not solely a possession of those not of God or Christ.
Music is a creation of our Creator. It is, if you will, a spiritual “substance”. Be it in the hands of a Christ follower or non-Christ follower does not change music’s origin or substance. What a musician does with music makes it neither good or evil. Music is the “innocent bystander”.

“Music Industry” … Oxymoron?
An oxymoron (plural oxymorons or oxymora) (from Greek ὀξύμωρον, “sharp dull”) is a figure of speech that combines normally-contradictory terms. – (from Wikipedia.org)
Lately, the more I speak this term the more I am realizing how much of an oxymoron it is. Really, think about it. Was music ever intended to be an item of commerce? Did our Creator mean for it to be an intangible that businesses/corporations should make billions of dollars on? While when I was young I too wanted the fame and fortune rock-n-roll had to offer, I’m no longer persuaded that that was the intent of music’s purpose.
